Essential Oil Spotlight – Basil

Basil:

The spicy, yet herbal nature of Basil makes it a versatile oil that can be used to promote focus and alertness, or to add a little extra flavor while cooking.

Basil has a warm, spicy, yet herbal aroma known to reduce anxious feelings. Basil provides great benefits to both the mind and body due to its high linalool content, making it an ideal application to help reduce feelings of tension when applied to the temples and back of the neck. The aroma of Basil helps promote a sense of focus and a stress-relieving experience.  Basil is commonly used in cooking to add a fresh, herbal flavor to meats, pastas, and entrée dishes.

Dryer Balls- DIY-Gift Idea-Hostess Gift

Follow this step-by-step tutorial to make your own wool dryer balls that can last for many years and can easily be scented with doTERRA essential oils leaving your fabrics fragrant and soft.

What You Need:

  • 100 percent wool yarn or other 100 percent animal yarn
  • Pantyhose

Upcycling Idea: Reuse pantyhose with runs in them

Directions:

  1. Take the end of the yarn and wrap it around your middle and index finger 10 times. Remove it from the fingers and wrap 2–3 times around the middle (it should look like a bow). This will be the start of your ball.
  2. Continue tightly wrapping the yarn around the start, working toward making a round shape. Once your ball is roughly the size of a tennis ball, cut the yarn and tuck the ends into the sides of the ball. Repeat this process until you have created four or more balls of yarn.
  3. Cut one leg off of the pantyhose. Place one ball into the bottom of the leg and tie a knot right above the ball to secure it in place. Repeat until all the balls have been added and secured.
  4. Once the balls are tightly secured in the pantyhose, put them in the washer (can be with a load of dirty laundry) and wash on the hottest setting. This will allow the yarn to felt. Felting will make the yarn fuse together, resulting in a solid ball. Once washed, dry the balls thoroughly in the dryer at the highest heat setting.
  5. After the balls are completely dry, remove them from the pantyhose and they’re ready for use! Before drying your next load of laundry, add your favorite doTERRA essential oil to 4–6 dryer balls, toss them in the dryer, and enjoy the soft, fluffy, wonderful-smelling fruits of your labor.

Tip:

  • 2–3 drops of essential oil per ball should last a few loads. Add more drops if you would like a stronger scent.

Fun Laundry Tips:

  • Crumple up aluminum foil into a ball and toss it in the dryer with the wet laundry to get rid of static cling.
  • For an even extra burst of essential oils in your clothing, place a wash cloth with a few drops of essential oil into your dryer. It will come out smelling beautiful!
  • Add a few drops of Lemon essential oil to your wash cycle to help remove grease and oil from fabrics.

Diffuser Blends & Recipes, DIY Recipes

How To Maintain Your Diffuser

Depending on what essential oils you diffuse, they purify the air you breathe and freshen the space with oils infused to meet your needs, which can range from calming and promoting sleep, to waking and grounding the mind by reducing feelings of stress and anxious feelings. A grounded mind can have a profound impact on your level of creativity and innovation.

Learning how to clean your diffuser is important to ensure its longevity. If left for too long, essential oils or any leftover water can corrode and ruin your unit, and can also negatively affect your aromatic experience when there’s an array of essential oil residue in the diffuser….. imagine trying to diffuse Basil after diffusing Spikenard first!

To keep your diffuser in perfect running condition for years to come, clean your diffuser after each use by wiping it out and letting it dry before using it again. For a quick clean, it is a good idea to diffuse Lemon oil for a short time. This makes it easier to clean out any residue or water lines before you wipe it out. For diffusers that do not use water, make sure to rinse out the nozzle with tap water and then wipe it clean.

We also recommend that you deep clean your diffusers once a month or as needed. Do so by following these steps based on the type of diffuser you have:

I personally use, doTerra’s diffusers, as I have found they do a really great job releasing the oils into rooms of all shapes and sizes!

Here are a few tips below:
How to Deep-Clean an Ultrasonic Diffuser (for Aroma Lite, Lotus, Lumo, or Petal diffusers)

  1. Turn off your diffuser.
  2. Fill the water reservoir halfway to the line with clean water.
  3. Add 10 drops of pure white vinegar to the water reservoir.
  4. Turn it on and let run for 3-5 minutes, allowing the vinegar to disperse throughout.
  5. Drain the water reservoir completely.
  6. Dip a cotton swab in white vinegar and wipe down the edges of the water reservoir as well as the ultrasonic mist chip.
  7. Rinse the water reservoir with clean water.
  8. Wipe the reservoir with a dry cloth and let air dry before using it again.

How to Deep-Clean a Nebulizing Diffuser (for the Aroma-Ace diffuser)

  1. Completely submerse the quick-change top in rubbing alcohol for 30–60 minutes.
  2. Wipe clean with a dry cloth.

Keeping a clean diffuser allows for the best possible experience in using your doTERRA essential oils aromatically.
